Carl Anderson

Racing age: 42

Marital status: Married to Adriana with daughters Alexandra and Susan.

Job: Model Shop Manager / IDEO Product Development

Hobbies: Water-skiing - Spectator sports

Category: Cat 5 masters.

Preferred type of racing: Don't know yet, but guess that I will do better in the flats than the hills (power/weight ratio).

Race resume:

  • Collegiate: Cal Poly S.L.O. - B Category - 1st & 3rd (1984)
  • USCF: 1984/1985 - Cat 5

Memorable Milestones: 1st Century - Lighthouse - 1985,
Oatbran Tour - 2001- Ride across Nevada

Who is your cycling icon and why: Greg Lemond - he helped bring the excitement and awe of the Tour de France and Pro cycling to the U.S. and made it OK for men to be seen in Lycra in this country.

Why I started cycling: In the early 80's I started cycling as a rehab from a motorcycle accident and then when I went to Cal Poly I got involved with the team/racing because of the people involved (same type of atmosphere as our club). I have been cycling as fitness/hobby since then.

Why I am still riding: I enjoy being outdoors and cycling is something that I can do on my own and with others depending on how I feel. I do many times enjoy the solitude of going out and doing a training ride and just let my mind wander and to solve the worlds problems or not.

Why I still Race: Racing is my motivational tool for my training/fitness.

Favorite Ride: When I get done and I feel that I have been fast, felt good, powered a climb and had a fun/enjoyable ride then can't wait to get on the bike again.

Nemesis Ride: Palomares Canyon - I can never predict how I am going to feel on the ride, going from strong to having to stop and take a breather though I do like the challenge.

My Race Bikes: 2002 Lemond Maillot Jaune

My worst bike: Specialized Carbon Epic - it broke.

Training Philosophy: Just Do (as much as the family and work will allow) it! - and keep IT fun.

Style: This ain't no Disco - Wear what I got and be myself and remember this is fun/recreation.

Short Term Goals:

  • not to finish last
  • survive the Sea Otter road race
  • do the Death Ride

Long Term Goals:

  • keep the fitness that I have worked at obtaining and see if I can improve,
  • Win a race while my family is cheering me on.
