Jeff Wong

Racing age: 25

Marital status: Single

Job: Software Engineer, Transmeta

Hobbies: Cycling, programming

Category: Cat 5.

Preferred type of racing: Road.

Race resume: 2002 Early Birds with 1 crash.

Memorable Milestones: I get a new one every week.

Who is your cycling icon and why: Lance Armstrong. Surely if I guy with cancer can do well, I can too, right?

Why I started cycling: I had a really nice road bike in school and I could get every where with it. Never was I dependent on gas, parking, or traffic. Cycling is so affordable and much more fun than driving!

Why I am still riding: I don't own a car and I really relish in the feeling you get knowing that you have propelled yourself all of those miles without being dependent on some external source of energy.

Why I still Race: The adrenaline, the speed!

Favorite Ride: Tunnel Road, Berkeley. It's the gateway to every ride that I do in that area.

Nemesis Ride: Marin Ave in Berkeley. It's more than 25% grade in some sections for 1.5km. I'd like to go up it some day with without stopping or snapping my bike. You can look up into the trees of the next block and all you will see is concrete!

My Race Bikes: 2001 Fuji Roubaix.

My worst bike: An old Huffy. Department store bikes are partly to blame for the general impression that cycling is hard and can't be a serious form of transportation. It certainly is when you're riding a 40 pound MTB up and down the hills of Fremont. I think I liked my BMX better.

Training Philosophy: Good training requires discipline in many aspects in your life. Maintain regular sleeping hours so your hard work doesn't go to waste. Do your work efficiently so you can spend more time on the bike. The race starts at home!

Style: Train well, race better.

Short Term Goals: Improve training intensity without the side effects. Train well, race better.

Long Term Goals: Start placing in upper half of Cat 5 races more often. Move up to Cat 4.
