Racing age:
44
Marital status:
Happily married and 2 children.
Job:
Product Manager
Hobbies:
, camping, travel, my kids, more than I can afford.
Category:
5
Preferred type of racing:
Pretty much anything.
Race resume:
Started racing as a junior, 13, ( called intermediates back then) and got my cat 2 license at 16, raced on average 100 days a year from 16 to 23, road track cyclocross. Medalled several times in the NJ districts, road, TT, TTT, point race, cyclocross.
I got the bug to race in Belgium in '79 because there was lots of racing, fair prize money and cheap living. Survived and went back in '80, '81 and 82 in the summers. Got to where I could usually get in the prizes(top 20) and several times in the top 10. Lost interest in '84 and haven't ridden since. Decided to ride again as running just isn't as much fun. Hopefully I'll add to this.
Memorable Milestones:
Getting 3rd at the districts the day after graduating high school and missing first by 12 inches after 80 miles of racing. The first time my friend Billy and I almost won the Madison at Kissena. First time I made the jump up to a winning split in Merelbeke, got 7th.

Who is your cycling icon and why:
Roger De Vlaeminck, he could do it all, road, track and especially cyclocross, except that his brother was even better at 'cross. Still a king of the Classics by any measure and a hardman of Flanders.
Why I started cycling:
It got me to expand my geography and I liked racing better than just touring.
Why I am still riding:
It's got a high fun factor, I still enjoy seeing the world.
Why I still Race:
Started running again a couple years ago and enjoyed a couple marathons, but prefer halfs. Running you're pretty much testing yourself, cycling is more competitive and more fun, but harder.
Favorite Ride:
Don't know the roads out here enough to have one yet, but I like the Peninsula as there's a chance for shade.
Nemesis Ride:
Don't have one yet, but I struggle on the climbs so either all or none.
My Race Bikes:
Lemond aluminum something or other from a few years back.
My worst bike:
had one yet.
Training Philosophy:
Working on a new one as 'ride a lot and race a lot' doesn't fit into my current schedule. Am trying to pick a section of a season and concentrate building and peaking for that.
Style:
Pedal smooth, we'll see if I can get it back. In races keep an eye out for opportunities to get away, you never know when they will occur.
Short Term Goals:
Try to be competitive in cyclocross this fall.
Long Term Goals:
Blend cycling into my family life and keep having fun.
