Iron Angle
Sunday 3rd March, 2002
What Brian J. saw:

Category: Beginner
Result: Top ten

Here's our out come on Sunday's Iron Angle Mtb. Race.

Andy picked me up, nice and early 5:00am ish. And I was awake. Smile! Thank you Andy for adjusting my brakes in the morning. We weren't able to pick Mark up. He's a little under the weather. Hope your feeling better soon Mark, if you are feeling better give Andy a call. He wants to do some additional training before Sea Otter Classic. I'm pre-registered for the Fort Ord circuit race this weekend and pre-registered for Lands Park Criterium Race weekend after, so I'm a little tied up. Andy I will see if I can squeeze a little mt. biking on Sundays. Okay!

Iron Angle Mtb. Race, the weather was great! Andy and I got there early. There was enough time for Andy and I to do part of one lap as a warm-up. I'm glad we where able to do that, at least we could get a feel for a least part of the course. Mtb. racing is so different, but a "BLAST". We had I believe 30 racers in our category. Nicole was out there with some of here team mates and friends. They all did a awesome job, even new comer Sarah. Sarah, just got a mountain bike in January and just started riding. Here it is first week of March and she's out racing. How's that for balls...! Smile! You go Sarah...!! Nicole was leading on the first lap of her race. If all went well. She should have locked up first place. I will keep everyone posted. F.Y.I., when she came around after her first lap. We where yelling her on, She yelled to me she had broke a spoke. She said, what do I do. I yelled back your wheels are rolling aren't they, than keep going. WHOO-HOO........!

Poor Andy, he took off in the race like a bat at of hell, but it wasn't going to be his day. On the first lap around the back side of the mountain, he broke his chain. CRAP!!, but he didn't quit. Being the experienced mtb. racer. He whipped out his chain breaker tool. Repaired his chain. Got back in the race. It was BIG RING TIME!! He wound it up, He told me he was feeling good. He started passing those racers, that passed him when he broke his chain. Whats that tell you about Andy's strength. Watch Out for the big Man!! Well, luck still wasn't with Andy, next event was a flat tire. CRAP AGAIN...!! but Andy still wasn't going to give up, he pulled out a spare tube he had only to find out it was no good. That was all she wrote at that point. Mind you all this happened in the first lap. GOOD luck, next time Andy!

As for me I learned alot and had a great time. I got 6th. Place. THAT'S RIGHT BABY! WHOO-HOO........................!!! YEAH.......! Andy spoke to me later, about not giving racers chances. When I come up on racers, pass......! he's right. Thanks for the tips. I will give it full trottle next time. f.y.i, I even did a complete 360 degree flip on my bike on a hill, got back up and Rock-n-Rolled. I must of had a lot of adrenaline following. See you all tonight.
