Another Velo Promo event. It was pretty well organized except that they did not issue start time until that morning and the start times were then in category order and my start time was 2 hrs and 39 min. after the first rider and there are no restaurants or much else in Esparto.
I was able to get in a nice warm-up, and it was warming up out there also, I got to the line with about 3 riders in front. My intentions (first real time trial for me) were to keep my heart rate at about 155 for the first third and work it up from there, well soon after starting I was at 165 and struggled to get it down and keep my speed going after finally getting a handle on it the rollers came on which were stair stepped climbs and seemed to catch up to you on the return leg of race.
Over the last third of the race I had my "minute man" in site but was not able to catch him. In the end I posted a 45:38 time over a little over 18 mile course and placed 2nd. I received a T-shirt and $30 for my efforts.
Overall a good weekend of racing.

Result: Top ten
First off major props to Mr. Jensen for use of his aerobars and Rich for his advice and information. Very much greatly appreciated so many big thanks! I would also like to thank the guy who formulated Endurox R4. Without I would have been too sore to ride. So thanks to you all.
This was my first time trial. I had a start time of 96 minutes from the first guy. I was able to get in solid warm up in. It was a neat course. I started off too strong.
I wanted to start off with my HR at around 165. I got off to about 172. I was able to keep it there for the remainder of the TT. The rollers at the turn around point were a little steeper that I thought they would have been. I'm not sure on my time yet. I had to leave shortly after I finished. My own kept time had me in the 51 minute range. I did get passed by one guy in my group, I'm pretty sure he won.
Looking back I would have started softer. I started in my 53/19. I might toy with starting in my 39 and go to my big ring.
Well with better focus I will hopefully be sending out reports with better results in the future.

Riding a time trial is always something of a voyage of discovery.
Yesterday's Esparto TT was no exception, with the distinct possibility
that the finish would be moved whilst I was on the course. At least I
was aware of the possibility.
There was a clear map at the registration desk, so I don't know how the
referee got the location of the finish incorrect. The initial position
of the finish, about 200 yards down the course from the start (a
traditional place for the finish of a TT) required the Pro/1/2 riders to
blow through a stop sign about 3 miles from the start. For this reason
VeloBob had planned the finish to be before the stop sign on the map.
Anyway, to my race. I was still tired from my efforts on Friday evening
so I had very little idea how I would ride. It was hard getting my heart
rate above 170 bpm on the trainer, so I knew I wouldn't have a great
day. Still, out of the start, my heart rate was up at 175 relatively
quikly and I was able to maintain it at this level most of the way out.
I could see my minute man in front of me, and at the crest of one of the
hills nearing the turn, I determined that I was up maybe 10 seconds.
However, once I made the turn and had to climb the hills on the way back
everything fell apart. I couldn't get my pulse above 165 for about 3
miles and was only able to get up to a decent speed again within sight
of the finish which was in the planned place. Oh dear - that wasn't so
good.
I ended up in 11th place in the 4's with 46:18 - I lost a minute to my
minute man on the return leg - he got 6th.
