What Richard saw:
Category: A
Result: Back of pack
Pritpal and I were at the track representing FFBC on Friday. We were in
the A's and there was a good turn-out with 20 in the A group and 18 in
the B group and some C's. The spectator turn-out was good and included
Vicky and Dave from the Club.
We had a point a lap, win and out, miss and out and a 10-mile scratch
race. Pritpal had a good miss and out.
I was pack filler in most of the races (the fast riders were out) save
for the 10-mile scratch where I was part of the main bunch until the
sprint on the last lap. I ended up in sixth place, just out of the
omnium points, but quite pleased with my ride as not a lot of the A's
survived the race to the end.
I finished about 20 seconds behind the winner of the race with a time of
roughly 21m35s, which if you work it out, is 27.8 mph average. One rider
who dropped out was Nate Shaw, who waited until he beat me in a prime
for some leg-warmers before he retired. I had words with him at the end.
It will be interesting to see if I can keep up the long-distance track
form for the chamionship events.
