I made it up to the last Billy Cross race of the season at Lake
Sonoma. I highly recomend this race. The course is a 5 mile loop
covering 600' elevation. Short decents and climbs connect the
course crossing over creaks and bypassing the fire roads. 90%
single track makes this a fun course. Two dismounts required, with
two other areas forcing dismounts if you didn't get it just right.
All at the creek crossings. The lap ends with two short steep loose
fire road climbs with a 100 yard flat connecting them.
I did a warm up lap probably going out a little too hard, but needed
to be sure to get back in time for the start. The initial paved
climb sorts out the riders, and since it was all single track I
stayed in front and started out the single track in the lead. about
20 minutes into the race I realized I was pushing too hard and let
off. Two riders passed me shortly after that. Near the end of the
first lap another rider passed me, but he must have had a mechanical
or quit, because I never passed him, but I ended up in third place
when the race was over.
