What Mike Z. saw:

Category: 4/5
Result: Back of pack

Today's race was slightly faster than last week. Ave. speed was 25.7 mph by my clock before I sat up and cruised to the finish line with less than a lap to go. I don't have anything exciting to report.

I started at the back and moved to the front about halfway through the race. I made a solo break to bridge a gap to 2 other riders. I caught them several hundred meters before the start finish line and we stayed away for about 2 laps before we were caught at about the same place on the course. The race was uneventful for the next several laps.

With 3 to go, I started probing the outside to figure out how I would move up. The best choice seemed to not be on the outside, but instead on the inside of the long straight after turn 2. The pack was riding toward the outside of that straight. I'm not sure why because it felt more windy on the outside. It made it fairly easy to move up by hugging close to the pack on the inside where there was a good draft and a lot of room to move. In fact, there was a whole lane. I did this and got to the front with 1 lap to go. I pulled as hard as I could for the finishing straight and onto the first corner where I shut it down and cruised on to the finish line. No crashes.

What Biker Bob saw:

Category: 1/2/3
Result: Top ten

Well, my race was almost identical to Mike's. Except for the last lap. I played in the front for a while. "Ziggy was kind enough to ask what I was doing so far towards the front. Punk!" Then rested.

I also moved up to the front on the inside staight after the second corner. I came around the last corner in the top 10. It was fast but I knew most of the guys would blow way before the sprint even started. I stayed in the saddle and slipped wheels every time someone went a little faster, soon I was in about 5th spot, I jumped much later than usual and passed all of them. Then 1 strong guy got me at the line, Labor rider.

The bad news, There was a break of 8 for about half the race that we caught just at the line. It made the end very interesting. I'm not sure if we caught any of them before the line. So I think I got 2nd or 3rd in the field sprint. I was surprisingly fresh for having done Mt Diabo the day before. Big fun! and good to see all who came!

What Tim saw:

Category: 1/2/3
Result: Mid-pack

Average (26.3mph) was not as slow as the first one aprox 26mph, but no where near as fast as last week, 27.07mph. I moved up with Bob but no where near as much. I was a little too far back and it got more than a little crowded so I eased up. Good training anyway.
