What Eugene saw:
Category: Various
Result: Various
Looked like it might be a fun day with the rain pouring down just before any races started, it was anyway but it dried up. Good course, long up hill straight with jog to downhill another quick jog and you’re back on the uphill home straight. Rode the Sr 45 and the 30+ 4-5 to try to get some hard training in, it basically worked.
The Sr. 4-5 race started fast and my usual lantern rouge strategy was a poor choice early as it strung out and within 10 of the 40 minutes I was off the back and pulled. They were just a little too fast for me to hang in. I had company as less than 20 of the original 40+ starters finished.
The 30+ guys went just a b bit slower and I made sure to get in the front third as this race went along and easily sat in. I’m getting more comfortable in the packs again and was able to move up inside the pack rather than on the outsides. The course was even fun as I could gain several positions at the bottom of the downhill by just taking a good line and rolling right through to the uphill turn in. The old boys were easing off there just at the 5 to go card so attacked up the hill for the next two laps.
Having an almost imperceptible jump these days I didn’t get a gap but at least I strung the boys out. Good training bad, race plan as I couldn’t recover for the last lap and finished at the back of the bunch. Got 40 minutes at LT or above, training success. Hopefully the documentum crit is flatter next week.
