What Jason saw:
Category: C
Result: Mid-pack
Okay so I did my first cyclocross race. This is a lot of fun. I had a blast. I don't' know where I placed. I'm sure I'm closer to the bottom. I used my old school Mnt bike that I am still converting over to CX rig. The thing is a steal beast... The whole experience reminded me when I was a kid and would ride around Coyote Hills.
Andy, Eugene and I car pooled up. We got there, registered and did some practice laps. The course was circular, dusty, and broken down into three sections. The flat barrier section that snaked up hill, then the steep hill section, then the gully section. It was also part of Frisbee golf course so every now and then you'd see some long haired hippies go by. It was a very fun coarse that I enjoyed more with every lap.
We started about 20 mins late. They were going to start all the C's, Women B's and Juniors But at the line the women insisted they stagnate by 30 seconds. That helped, didn't make thinks to clumpy.
When the race started I went to the back. It is true what they say, if you want to compete you do need to get to the front early. I opted to say in the back, ride a strong tempo and just get some experience in. First lap I stayed in touch. The flat section came real handy. I found myself catching people through, do to my time trialing skills.
Second and third laps, the course was more fun every time. I was able to handle the decent down from the steep climb and had moved up a bit more. (Mainly I had passed all the big boys) But by now my body was starting to talk. CX really is an hour of power. On my 4th lap I got the one lap card. I picked up the pace. By now I had gotten used to the coarse and I believe it was my fastest lap. I eventually was lapped by the first place guy, but I didn't care.
I had a great time, gained some confidence in my bike handling skills, got a really solid work out in, and can't wait until Candlestick on the 24th!

What Eugene saw:
Category: Master A
Result: Back of pack
EB's race. M35+ A and elite A, 60 min Maybe 25 starters total?
Got a better start, but was at the back fast again. Settled in for the long
haul and worked hard. The course was fun except for an up curb which I
decided to not risk and ensure finishing, Andy's race ended early with a
flat here. Got lapped about midway by the elite leader but held off most of
my class till later. Leader got me again on the last lap so I did 7 to his
9.
Results may be out later in the week or not, my race was delayed at least 30
minutes as the officials could figure out what happened in the B race. Will
forward a couple pictures to Richard for possible posting.
