What Tim saw:
Category: 4/5
Result: Did not finish
I got a good warm-up on the course for about 25 minutes.
The race started out super-fast, but I made a big effort to get to the
top 20 by the first turn. The field was really strung out from the
start, so it was difficult to move up. I was fine for the first 7 laps,
trying to get a hold of solid wheels to take me to the front, but never
really found that solid wheel like at did at our crit. After a couple
laps I was beginning to realize I couldn't keep this pace up for very
long, so I just went into race survival mode. However, after 7 laps, I
was really starting to hurt and the pace was still really fast. I tried
to power through the rest of the race, but I finally ran out of gas
around lap 10 and blew up, drifted back through the field and saw Chris
and German pass me. Race over.
Nothing to exiting happened while I was in the race, except for those
racers that would dive the inside of the turn 3, the only left hand
turn. That would really piss me off, because they would dive that corner
and if they were on the inside of you, call out, "Inside", and I had to
make room.
Chris and German finished their race and we went home because no one
else from ffbc was racing until much later in the day. Hopefully, the cat 5 race at Davis won't be so fast and strung out.
