What Donn saw:
Category: 4
Result: Back of pack
The inaugural Lafayette Crit was a really cool race. Instead of the usual 4-90 degree right turns, the course consists of three left turns. A long straight leads to turn 1, a left onto a short but steep downhill. That gets you quickly to turn 2, a hard left onto another long straight, and finally turn 3 is a hairpin-uphill-trending left onto the uphill straight back to the start/finish line. The wide roads make it fairly easy to move around in the pack.
Not much to report about my race. The first 20 minutes felt hard, then I settled into a comfortable rhythm near the back of the pack. On the final lap i made a long move up on the back straight to get into the top 20 or so. We made the final hairpin turn and everyone took off, leaving me at the back. In retrospect I should have moved up in smaller increments earlier during the race as my big move on the last lap sapped my legs.
