Result: Mid-pack
Reg'd and stuff. I got about a 15 minute warmup because registration
didn't actually open till 7AM and our race started at 7:30. We start
the race and pace is fine for the first half of the race. Standard
bumping and touching. One guy got really spooked when I touched his
hip with my handlebar.
As the race progressed, the pace would pick up a couple times as
fruitless attacks were covered. A couple of times, we bunched up and
I found myself about 4-5 rows back, which actually was the back of
the pack because of how wide the road was and the size of our field.
However, I found that I could make up several places on the back
stretch in and after 90-degree right-hand turn.
With 5 to go (I think), there was an attack with 3 unknowns and a Cal
Giant Guy that won the 5s at Sea Otter and Ronde. I was a little
worried it would stick as they got about 100m gap. But there is a
reason we are 5s and they came back.
With a couple less go, I sat on the outside behind a different Cal
Giant guy for a lap thinking he'd take me the front to help his
buddy, but he never did. So with 2-to-go, I pull myself to the front
using a lot of valuable energy. Tried to stick to wheels through bell
lap and not let any gaps form, but I was pretty tired at this point
and had very little left for the sprint.

What German saw:
Category: 4
Result: -
I was very excited to participate in this race, especially to see how my new Quintana Roo bike would feel on it. I was able to pre-register and finished with very good legs from Saturday’s road race (Wente) and the enthusiasm was very high as well as the preparation for this particular event; but the unfortunate came when I decided to go out for dinner the night before the event in which I got food poisoned and ended up at the Washington Hospital for the rest of the night. Basically it ruined my intentions of participating and just until Monday I started to feel better, couldn’t even send an e-mail to the team to announce my absence for the race, my apologies for that but couldn’t get it done. I am looking forward to my next race.
